Why Copywriters Should Prepare for the Evolution of Websites

July 4th, 2009

A recent survey of British pensioners found that surfing the web is now their favourite pastime, ahead of gardening and DIY. Popular uses included email, banking, reading the news and searching for information. This is indicative of the general population as a whole. The internet is becoming a dominant platform for entertainment, organising your lifestyle and buying goods and services. As a result, more and more businesses are starting to realise that static brochure style websites are inadequate for capturing the attention of info hungry surfers.

Blogs have been heralded as excellent marketing tools: enabling your website to be able to develop trust and confidence through the provision of information of value. Blogs can help push people further down the sales funnel, position your business as a knowledge leader and organically optimise your website for search, from where 80% of your traffic is expected to come from. Now web savvy copywriters are harnessing the ethos of blogging in preparation for the growing market for online writers.

Usage of the internet for searching for product and service information is booming creating the demand for relevant, original and useful content. This means plenty of work for online copywriters to provide fresh articles that sell through education.

Businesses could opt for republishing free content, or regurgitated $10 copy, as a cheap solution but this isn’t going to impress consumers looking for a knowledge leader, or promote the unique values of your enterprise.

Upon searching Google news for the term ‘copywriting’ I found a number of press releases from copywriters advertising their new ongoing, content package for news and articles. Gone are the days when copywriters were only need for writing the home, services and about pages. Websites are now organic portals for news and information. They need to be continually evolved to encourage return visitors, and develop the sales process.

It seemed inevitable that the proven, positive aspects of blogging would start to influence how websites evolve, and increase the demand for online writers. So if you are a copywriter, and want to take advantage of your increasing value to businesses, put a press release together and notify all your clients of the need to turn their websites into portals of news and information.

Just make sure that for all your articles they switch comments on, although this might still be a bridge too far for many.

Buying Text Links To Boost Search Engine Rankings

July 4th, 2009

Anybody that is into search engine optimization, or a website owner we know that buying text links is a very important aspect of seo, specially if we want to achieve higher ranking in the search engines specially Google, but there is many important things to look for.

Always make sure when your buying text links that there coming from a relative resource because if there not then the search engines will have a hard time defining what your site is based upon, so if you have a site that is on hallmark ornaments, but you have 1000’s of off topic websites linked to you that will start to look fishy.

There is several services that offer text link building, blog posts, and directory submissions just always make sure the sites are going to be relevant, now directory submission are okay, but make sure you put it in the proper category, sometimes the search engines will read the titles of a directory, and count it as a relevant vote, its rare but does happen.

Contextual linkage is the best, links that are in paragraph of sentences generally this is on a blog post, and when you achieve a link like this you get major credibility specially from higher page ranked sites, just remember one thing to always respect page rank, trying to boost page rank to quickly can you get you penalized from Google, and we don’t want that.

Some places that offer link building is indianawebsitedesign.net Dewitts Contextual Links, they have a great service on contextual link building, and internet marketing in general.

You’ve Got Your New Online Business – So How Can You Ruin It?

July 4th, 2009

Every week thousands of people start their new online business and every week many of them fail. So what can we learn from these failures? Well here’s how to ensure that you ruin your new business.

1. Use No Cost Hosting

Sounds a great idea. Put your site up at no cost. Use the web space that comes with your internet account or from a big supplier. Not going to work I am afraid. This kind of hosting is instantly recognizable – not least because of the advertising that you have endure but also because of the long and strange web site address that you have to use. You are also given a giveaway email address - just to advertise that you are not really a professional outfit. No cost hosting from large companies provides minimal support and facilities and is offered to encourage upgrading. Remember this please.

2. Buy a Cheap Site of the Auction Sites

If you follow these auctions over a number of weeks you will see that the same types of sites come up for sale again and again. How are you going to profit amongst such competition? Never believe the sales pitch of making so much for so little effort and money. Better to spend some time, effort and money on making your site unique and pleasant to visit.

3. Forget Your Site

Think of your site as your baby – it needs constant attention and changing. You need to regularly add and change your content, market it and improve it. This encourages both search engine rankings and repeat visits as well as that all important purchaser.

4. Hide From Your Customers

You can do this by not putting any contact details on your website, offering no support and using an obscure payment processor. People like to know they can find you if something goes wrong, their credit card details are safe and that you are a real person and not a scam!

5. Don’t Tell Anyone About Your Business

There are billions of web sites around and even more products for sale. So how do you expect anyone to find you? Marketing, list building and advertising. That’s how. Business failures happen because you don’t sell enough to survive. Expect to spend about 75% of your time marketing at the beginning of your business life and then about 50% once you are established.

SEO - Do Web Designers Even Know What It Means?

July 4th, 2009

My story has been written several million times. I’d had this great idea; I was pretty good with the internet. In fact I made most of my purchases through the internet and considered myself a proficient surfer so decided that I wanted a slice of the pie. I’d decided to set-up my own online business.

So what did I do?

I considered myself to be reasonably intelligent. I’d managed to pass a law degree and had worked in various I.T companies performing assorted tasks. I had a pretty good knowledge of business and set about finding suppliers and products that I could sell on my new online venture.

I had everything I needed and was ready to go. All that was needed now was a good site. If I had a great site I couldn′t go wrong, it’s going to look great. People and orders will soon be flooding through my virtual shop doors. Not quite!

The web designer?

Off I went and found myself a web designer, I’d seen his work it was fantastic. His sites were truly immersive; a pleasure on the eye and everything seemed to flow nicely. I explained what I wanted and several thousand pounds later away he went. The results looked fantastic. I was very pleased with his work. He had a few final bits and pieces to do but then we were ready for..

Go LIVE! Woohoo!

Everything was ready, the site was ready. I had three thousand products loaded. I’d spent a week analyzing prices, making sure I’d got mine just right. I was sure that it was going to be a huge success; ok admittedly I was relying primarily on the internet for sales. After all, I’d pumped a size able chunk of cash into the site! I waited for an email from my web designer to tell me the site was live and prepared myself for the rush of orders that would surely flood in. The email arrived.. The site was live.

So what happened?

Well, erm.. nothing! I waited patiently, asked my web designer if there were any problems with the site. He reassured me that everything was fine, that he′d submitted the site to the main search engines. It would just take them a little while for them to visit and index the pages. Sure enough the search engines visited, but still nothing. Months passed, in fact several years passed. I’d pretty much given up on the site, putting its failure down to other factors. My competitors must have just had more attractive sites.

Yes they were more attractive, but not to humans. The pages on my competitors sites had been setup in such a way that the search engines preffered them. But why? I wondered. So I started researching, I’m happy to admit that I’m stubborn. I don’t like to give up and I certainly don’t like failing. As I spent more time researching I started finding fundamental problems with the way the site had been setup. Sure, I had 3000 products but as far as the search engines were concerned each of these product pages were the same. I may as well of had one page and one product.

I’d fire over changes to my web designer faster than he could keep up. He made the changes but it was soon apparent that I needed more control, I asked for access to the site and started making changes myself. In the years that followed I tweaked and changed the site, small changes so that I was able to effectively gauge the impact of those changes. I started link building and took great pleasure as my site began climbing its way out of the abyss until ultimately working its way to the top 3 on all the major search engines for the highly competitive key phrases I was targeting.

This site aged me! There were times when I felt like banging my head against a brick wall. I’d make some changes, generate some links and it would climb. I’d change something else and it would start dropping again. Eventually I knew exactly what worked and what didn’t, it had been a long painful learning curve but the knowledge I had gained would be of great benefit long term.

SEO is by its nature intelligent informed speculation. The search engines don’t release details of their ranking criteria. We have to second guess them constantly, stay one step ahead.

I don′t bear any grudge against my then web designer, he did his job. It was my own naivety that resulted in the sites poor performance. I really did believe that if I built it they would come. Unfortunately, whilst this might happen in films it certainly doesn′t happen on the internet.

Since this original site I have been involved in the development of many sites, domestic and commercial. Sites which largely as a result of the above experience and on-going experiences consistently perform well achieving good rankings and high traffic volumes.

With a little help your site can be successful.

Joint Ventures: The Long Overlooked Path To Wealth

July 3rd, 2009

Joint ventures have been in existence since man has been forming alliances to benefit the collective. What has often been seen as the vehicle of the large publicly traded corporations is just as useful to online marketers looking to leverage their knowledge. A joint venture gives an online entrepreneur a way to combine the skills that he or she owns with another member to compliment their own shortcomings.

Let’s say that I have a great product exclusive to only me. I have a great sales pitch, it does something no one else’s product can do, and it’s listed for a great price. The problem is that I don’t have a distribution network for it, so my sales move at a near trickle. Let’s also say that there is a mystery online marketer out there that has a mailing list stocked full of thousands of contacts. Their problem is that even though they have all of these contacts, they have no product to sell. Well of course, now you’re thinking “it’s a no brainer that the two should partner up and make some money.” True enough, in this example it seems very simple, but in actuality many people in this same situation don’t put two and two together. They try on their own to make it work. Sometime they succeed, but more often than not they fail.

Do yourself a favor. The next time you’re looking to make some money, take a look at the resources that you have available. Then, take even more time finding the right partner that you can form a joint venture with. This way, you’ll both end up making more money easier by leveraging the skills that you have with your partner’s. Have a profitable day!

Mistakes Made While Searching the Internet Highway?

July 3rd, 2009

When searching the internet highway for what ever reason I will tell you the do’s and don’ts to ensure you get the best deal and do not miss out on the best product possible.

You could be searching the internet highway for any number of reasons. Either way I will tell you the most common mistakes people make while performing a search. This can cause the person searching to miss out on the best deals, the best products and some of the all around best products or services out there.

It could be you are looking for a new car bow to place on top of a car for your next television commercial ad, or buying a big blue bow with silver trim for your up coming wedding. Maybe you need an auctioneer, a fabric repair specialist. Or maybe you are just looking for the best gas prices in the neighborhood.

Either way I will tell you how to search for it without missing out!
For this we will use an up coming wedding. You need a very large bow for it.

The first thing you do is start the search. Determine the search engine you want to use.

Google is perhaps the safest in my opinion because out of the top 4 search engines Google refused to share personal information. Not even after being served by our very own federal government with subpoenas to release the information.

With that said, you need to take careful consideration as you start your search. When you put in the search bar whatever it is you are looking for and hit enter you get a list of websites anywhere from 10 to 6 million sites.

You are shown these particular pages/sites because of the ranking of each of their websites and the uniqueness of the keywords they use. Not necessarily in the best order. Only because of how they had their site optimized and how they were able to get it ranked both right away and over time.

What you need to do once you have received your listing of pages/sites is to scroll through them. The most common mistake people make is to look only at the first 2 pages of a search. This causes you to miss out on some of the best sites out there in cyberspace.

For instance: If you are searching for a wedding bow and size does not matter, then you will get a large number of wedding sites to choose from. ‘However’ if you are searching for an oversized giant wedding bow? Then you tend to miss the very site you are looking for when you only look at the first 2 pages. No pages in the beginning of your search for a giant bow will have bows that are gigantic and untraditional.

You may find the normal shoe tie loop looking bows but that will be all if you do not look any farther. For instance there is a site called CRBows that has 8 ½ foot elegant, giant wedding bows. They are not listed in the first pages, only you will not find them unless you continue to search through the many numbered pages you will see listed at the bottom of a search. So if you continue on you may get to the actual item you are searching for.

Another for instance is if you type in the search bar wedding favors (if that is what you are looking for) you will get some wonderful sites listed right away. Then again you are also not seeing the others that have the same quality and perhaps even better or wider selection of wedding favors.

The same goes for automobile dealers and just about everything you could possibly search for.

So make sure you look farther than the first page or two. You do not want to miss out on some wonderful sites/deals and or great items.

Try different types of spellings or phrases for the product or service/s you are looking for.

And do not forget the oldest and maybe the best way possible to find what you are looking for. This way has been around for many years. Ask a human person. Word of mouth is usually a testimony to the best places to get what you want.

Good luck with your search.

The owner of CRBows bows has put careful consideration into the planning and designing of each area of the bow, how it is made and the material (Silk Flannelette) giving it a look of elegance and class with a velvety feel. This has helped to get the CRBows bow listed among the world’s most beautiful bows available.

Podcast Creativity: Writing Your Own Ticket

July 3rd, 2009

Hold on - all bets are off and all of the old stereotypes are out the window. Podcasting is knocking down the barriers to unlimited creativity and here’s the good news… you get to write your own ticket.

No one can hold you back and once again, just like in the early days of radio and television, the creative will rule.

These are exciting times. The best or the worst depending on your point of view. If you are an old traditional advertising person, well, life just doesn’t seem fair then does it? The old “control distribution and control the message to consumers via expensive media delivery” philosophy has been changed.

Katie bar the door, podcasting has opened up avenues and in the process changed the game.

Podcasting provides the reach to an unlimited audience and the price is right. Expensive airtime is not the consideration any more. It’s what you have to say and whom you′re saying it to.

True, as consumers we have become so sophisticated that our “sales deflector shields” are activated the minute we sense hype coming our way via old school advertising. It’s amazing isn’t it? We receive such a constant barrage of marketing impressions that we have been forced to become experts at tuning out the unwanted.

Believe everything we hear… nope, don’t think so. In fact we don’t even hear it. We tune it out.

Podcasting has opened up our ears. We choose whom we listen to and the consumer is in control. When we are letting down our guard and opening ourselves to new information the reputation of the podcaster is paramount. Credibility is king when we are selecting the messages we seek out.

After all, with podcasting we are in control. We get to download and listen to podcasts that enhance our interests and we have instant power to delete any offending feed.

This is creating new opportunities. Honesty rules. New ways to support your product or service gain the interest of your audience. We earn customer loyalty not by playing to the lowest common denominator (like traditional marketing and advertising - just watch network TV) but by appealing to the highest level of intelligence we can offer to our customers.

Treat your customer as you would want to be treated. Podcasting helps us do just that.

Here’s a few ways new opportunities are being created:

Put your customer behind the microphone. Podcasting is opening the doors for bringing your customers onto your podcast and letting them speak about your product or service. Creates an interesting show with often unexpected twists as new ideas emerge you wouldn’t have thought of.

Risk big and fail often. Traditional advertising costs prohibited taking big chances. With the cost of radio and TV time, who dared open the creative window. But, as we all know, innovation stops when we become afraid to fail. Fail often; fail fast has become the new mantra. Podcasting is cost effective and after all, you are speaking to your listeners who want to hear what you have to say. If you are innovating, they’ll back you up as you blaze new trails.

Use toll free phone lines to collect comments and ideas. Let your listeners leave their comments and include them in the podcast. In the words of one woman who is pioneering the fashion industry by her innovative use of podcasting “I let the women tell me how they want my fall line to look. I design the clothes they tell me they′d like and I simply create what they asked for. They constantly tell me they love feeling a part of the process. And they are. I literally let them define and design their own product and guess what, it sells.”

With podcasting, the focus is on the marketing opportunity, not the media buying costs.

Open your mind and let new ideas flow. You just might be more of a genius than you thought!

Press Release: Marketing Good News

July 2nd, 2009

Once upon a time a press release was sent to the nearest newspaper in the hopes that at least some of the release might make it to newsprint. Today a press release to a local newspaper may be included only as an afterthought.

In marketing your website the use of a press release can be an effective means of drawing people to your website.

Certainly there are skills involved in writing a press release and there are plenty of qualified freelance writers who can assist you in the development of a solid press release. However, as with any new process it is possible to learn the skill of press release writing.

In today’s online community the press release is about more than trying to pass muster with the news media. Today press releases are routinely found on individual websites and can be picked up by affiliated websites. In essence when a press release is written it needs to appeal to the news media, but it also needs to connect with the public.

Many online businesses will place a ‘press release’ section on their website as a means of keeping visitors informed of new developments within the company or the website.

A press release can be developed for a significant number of events. For instance, if you provide a new website design you could send out a press release talking about the new design and the reasons this design is more functional and useful to your customers. If you launch a new service, a press release can be an easy way to encourage the curious to come take a look. If you have added a new line to your existing offerings, a press release can alert your customers and potential clients to the good news. If you’ve won an industry award a press release can work to instill a greater degree of trust in your firm.

There are several online companies that handle the distribution of press release information. Perhaps one of the most well known is PR Newswire, but there are other services available. Many of these services require a fee for distribution.

Many online netrepreneurs have learned that the effective distribution of strategic press releases can provide a sizeable return on investment in the form of new clients and unique visitors.

When you have good news you shouldn’t hesitate to share it in the form of a press release. This is just one more online marketing tool worth exploring.

Adsense Money - How to Make More Money by Removing Adsense

July 2nd, 2009

If you’re looking for a quick way to make extra money from your website, chances are that you’ve chosen to use Google Adsense.

It’s quick and simple. Put a small chunk of code on your web pages and let Google figure out the best paying adverts to display to your site’s visitors.

The trouble is, the quickest and simplest way is also the one that makes you least cash in the long term.

Figure it out: the majority of the advertisers using Adsense are making money from their ads. So the money they are paying for the ads is less than the amount of money they are paying Adsense. On top of that, you′re not getting the whole of the income. Google will take their share of the revenue.

Which means you’re leaving a lot of money on the table by using the shortcut of Google Adsense money. Money that would be put to much better use if it was in your pocket!

So how do you cut out the middle man and make more money from your site’s visitors?

The complicated route is to track down various product owners, sign up for their affiliate deals and place your own adverts. And if you have some spare time, this is almost certainly the most profitable route you can take.

Some of the pay per click networks, such as MaxBounty, will also allow you to place adverts from their network. But again this can be time consuming.

One system that is almost as easy as getting money from Adsense is to put Clickbank adverts on your site. Whether this is cost effective will depend on your market – Clickbank products are digitally delivered. There are several programs available on the web that allow you to deliver Clickbank products with almost the same ease as making Adsense money. Do a quick search and you’ll come up with a number of solutions from a handful of dollars upwards.
